Reminder: Today, November 4, is the end of the first quarter for middle and high school students. Remind your students to start the second quarter strong. Turn in work on time, ask teachers for extra help during Cub Academic Time at Sedro-Woolley High School, or look at their class syllabus to see when they’re available before or after school. There is zero shame in asking for help if you’re struggling in a subject. Encourage your students to ask their friends who are excelling to help them understand the subjects better. This can help both students grasp concepts in a deeper way.

The National Weather Service has issued a HIGH WIND WARNING for our area, in effect from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday. Forecast: • Winds: South winds 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50-60 mph in some areas • Areas Affected: North Coast, San Juan County, Western Skagit County, Western Strait of Juan De Fuca, and Western Whatcom County. • Potential Impacts: Damaging winds could down trees and power lines, leading to widespread power outages. Travel may be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. At this time, we are planning to operate schools on a regular schedule. However, we encourage families to prepare for possible disruptions, especially those living on rural routes that could be affected by downed trees. If you haven’t already, please download the My Ride K-12 app for real-time transportation updates. It provides secure access to your student’s bus schedule, stop, route, and bus number. Please ensure your children are dressed appropriately for colder classrooms in the event of a power outage. Our maintenance crews will be on standby to address any potential issues in our buildings, but please be aware that downed trees and power lines may cause road closures. We urge everyone to be safe, exercise caution, and stay informed as we navigate the upcoming weather conditions. Stay safe, and we look forward to seeing students tomorrow!

Big Lake Elementary invites local Veterans and families to join them on Thursday, November 7 at 9:45 a.m. for a special Veterans Day celebration. The event will feature a flag retirement ceremony led by crew members from NAS Whidbey Island Search and Rescue, with music from the Cascade Middle School band. An invocation and moment of silence will be led by the Big Lake Fire Department Chaplain. Lakeview Boulevard will be closed in front of the school for the gathering. Wear your Red, White, and Blue for this meaningful tribute!

🎺 Veterans Day Parade at Central & Mary Purcell Elementary 🎺 Mark your calendars now! Join us for a combined Veterans Day Parade on Friday, November 8 at 10:10 a.m. as we honor our veterans! The parade route takes Central and Mary Purcell students from the entrance of Central Elementary School down Talcott Street, to Third Street to State Street and then loops through downtown Sedro-Woolley on Metcalf to Ferry Street and back to Central. An educational assembly will be held at both schools after the parade. The Sedro-Woolley High School marching band will join the parade (Please note: high school students will return to the high school in time to ride buses home). 7:41 p.m. October 28 UPDATE: Phone service has been restored. 11 a.m. UPDATE: A Fiber Optic cable has been damaged somewhere in western Washington and the estimated time of repair of the cable is unknown at this time. There are several agencies and businesses affected by this outage all throughout western Washington. It is very unlikely that this will be resolved by the end of business today. The Sedro-Woolley School District phone system is currently down. As a result, you are not able to call into the district buildings. The buildings are able to call out, just cannot receive calls. We do not have an estimated time of when the phone will be restored. All schools will remain open, and staff are continuing to operate as smoothly as possible under these circumstances. We appreciate your understanding and patience.
