Benjamin Martinez, an eighth grader at Cascade Middle School, was honored to serve as Superintendent of the Day on Thursday. As part of the honor, Benjamin toured the district's transportation department and was happy to see his bus driver, Suzanne Taylor! She is a big fan of his and is very envious of his grip strength. As a standout club wrestler, Benjamin is constantly working on becoming stronger, even on the bus. He was the state champion in Folkstyle Wrestling in the 136-pound weight class, representing Steelclaw Wrestling. He is ranked #3 in the nation. He hopes to someday wrestle at Penn State and pursue a degree in architectural engineering. As part of the transportation tour, Benjamin was also able to take a look underneath a school bus with Head Mechanic Jim Cimoch.
After the transportation tour, Benjamin traveled to City Hall for a behind the scenes tour with Jana Hilsinger, a permitting technician with the City of Sedro-Woolley. He met quite a few staff members and then ended the tour with Police Officer Cody Velthuizen giving him an in-depth look at a police cruiser.
After that, he had lunch with Superintendent Mickelson at the district office.
Finally, he headed up to Lyman Elementary School where he spent most of his elementary school years. He said this was the highlight of his day!

🌟✨ During Public School Volunteer Appreciation Week, we're thrilled to spotlight Brandi Knapp, an amazing parent volunteer at Lyman Elementary School! 🏫 Brandi's tireless efforts have positively impacted our school community for the past 6 years.
Brandi's role as Vice President of the Lyman Parent Group has seen her spearhead numerous initiatives aimed at enhancing the educational experience for students and fostering a sense of community among parents, teachers and staff.
Her most notable contribution lies in the creation and implementation of an art docent program, a venture that has enriched student learning experiences across all grade levels. Brandi's meticulous research, coupled with her organizational prowess, ensured the program's success, from recruiting and training parent volunteers to sourcing materials and engaging art experts from the community.
Brandi played a pivotal role in orchestrating the acquisition and installation of new playground equipment, transforming Lyman’s outdoor space into a vibrant hub for physical activity and social interaction.
Brandi has cultivated a culture of collaboration and support within the Lyman community. By championing ideas and rolling up her sleeves to execute them, she has inspired others to join in the collective mission of nurturing young minds.
