Ernesto Vega Macedo has been named the December Sedro-Woolley Rotary Student of the Month.
Ernesto is the son of Ernesto and Maria Vega of Sedro-Woolley.
Ernesto maintains a 3.83 GPA while being actively involved in Sedro-Woolley High School. He has earned many Department Awards including English, Math, Physical Education and American Sign Language, as well as a few Student of the Month awards. Ernesto is on Honor Roll and is a member of Latinos Unidos club. Last school year, he had the opportunity to present a program called S.I.F.T. to the Sedro-Woolley School Board. S.I.F.T. is a program where students learn how to spot and recognize misinformation online.
Outside of school, Ernesto enjoys spending time with his family and friends, which includes playing games with his cousins! He currently works at Olive Garden as a busser and a to-go specialist, and has previous work experience in labor work and welding.
After graduation, Ernesto plans to go into an apprenticeship with Matrix Service as a pipefitter. He is also considering attending Bellingham Technical College to study welding. Congratulations Ernesto!
Zoe Abbott has been named the December Sedro-Woolley Rotary Student of the Month. Zoe is the daughter of Greg and Angel Abbott of Sedro-Woolley.
Zoe maintains a 3.6 GPA while being actively involved in Sedro-Woolley High School. She is a member of our Varsity Volleyball team (4 years, lettering 1 year) as well as our Varsity Fastpitch team (3 years) and is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes club. She loves participating in school events like Homecoming, school dances, and attending home sporting events.
Outside of school, Zoe enjoys spending time with family and friends, going on walks with her mom, and most recently found a new hobby; doing her own nails. She volunteers at Central Elementary and is currently the assistant coach with our Cascade Middle School volleyball team. During the summer months, Zoe works at local farmers markets selling strawberries as well as holds a receptionist position for a local salon.
After graduation, Zoe plans on attending Evergreen Beauty College to specialize in hair coloring. She hopes to own her own salon one day. Congratulations Zoe!

Sedro-Woolley School District is seeking a compassionate and skilled Licensed School Nurse (LPN/RN) to join our team for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year! This leave replacement position will be split between Clear Lake Elementary and Big Lake Elementary, working to support the health and well-being of our students and staff.
📍 Details:
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. (7 paid hours/day)
• Part-Time: 35 hours/week
• Pay Range: $36.87–$46.20 per hour
• Location: Split between Clear Lake and Big Lake Elementary Schools
• Benefits: Included per PSE Collective Bargaining Agreement
🔑 Responsibilities include:
• Monitoring student immunizations and conducting health screenings
• Providing emergency first aid and evaluating health needs
• Delivering health counseling and classroom health presentations
• Acting as a liaison between home, school, and community resources
📋 Requirements:
• Current Washington State LPN License
• Current CPR/First Aid Certificate
• Strong communication, problem-solving skills, and flexibility

🛠️ 🏫 Built in 1926, Central Elementary School has seen nearly a century of service to our community, with the last major updates completed 30 years ago. Thanks to our incredible maintenance and custodial teams, this historic building continues to serve our students and staff every day.
Over winter break, a flush valve malfunction in the staff lounge caused flooding in the lounge and the classroom below. Our team immediately jumped into action to mitigate the damage and begin repairs:
✅ Water-damaged drywall has been removed and the area thoroughly dried.
✅ Carpets in both rooms have been cleaned.
✅ Drywall on the ceiling in the basement classroom is being replaced.
✅ Plans are underway to replace the damaged carpet and subfloor during summer break.
A HUGE thank you to our amazing team—Stacy Ellison, Steve Daley, Tyson Cloquet, Clint Jones, Brian Jackson, Don Griffin, Paul Swanson, Brad Bodin, Lauren Van Der Pol, and Rick Pennington—for their hard work and swift response!
