🎶 Learning to lead — and bringing new ideas back to Woolley!

Student choir leaders from Sedro-Woolley High School and Cascade Middle School recently traveled to Inglemoor High School in Kenmore with Choral Music Director Stephanie Cates for a full day focused on leadership within choral programs.

Students practiced leading sectionals, learned new activities to engage their fellow singers, and explored ideas for building community, recruiting new members, fundraising and strengthening their choir programs.

They also had the opportunity to learn and perform a piece of music alongside middle and high school students from throughout the Puget Sound region.

It was a full day of music, collaboration and leadership — and our students returned with plenty of ideas for helping our own choir programs continue to grow! 🎵

🐻 Meet some of our newest Cubs!

This morning, we stopped by the Cubs Early Learning Academy at Sedro-Woolley High School, where some of our youngest learners were busy playing, creating and learning together.

The Cubs Early Learning Academy has been part of the Sedro-Woolley School District for more than 40 years! Today, the preschool serves as a lab classroom for SWHS Child Psychology students, giving our high school students the opportunity to take what they are learning in class and put it into practice alongside preschoolers.

It’s a pretty special partnership: our youngest Cubs get a fun, engaging preschool experience while our high school students gain hands-on experience working with children and learning about child development.

Interested in joining the waitlist for a future school year? Contact Jessica Ortega-Mendez at jortega@swsd101.org for more information.

🦫💦 SURPRISE! It was Attendance Day at Big Lake Elementary!

Big Lake held its first Surprise Attendance Day yesterday, starting the morning with music, bubbles, signs and lots of cheers as staff welcomed students to school.

The fun continued in the afternoon when students turned their water shooters on Principal Matt Lutes! 💦 And teacher Natalie Sakuma made sure Mr. Lutes didn't escape without getting completely soaked, dumping a container of water over his head!

Big Lake plans to hold a Surprise Attendance Day each month, with different activities throughout the year designed to make coming to school fun and help students feel welcomed, connected and excited to learn.

Because every day at school is an opportunity to learn, connect and grow — and showing up matters.

Way to go, Beavers! 🦫

100 Years of Central School 🎉

Take a look back at Central School’s 1958–59 kindergarten class with teacher Mrs. Matsushita!

It was a historic school year. Alaska and Hawaii became the 49th and 50th states, and according to former Central student Judy Johnson, the class celebrated Hawaii’s statehood with their Hawaiian teacher. 🌺

Join us for the Central Centennial Celebration from noon to 2 p.m. October 3. The celebration will include a community open house and self-guided tours, giving former students, families and community members a chance to walk the halls and revisit Central.
