BRANDON BOYD has been named November Student of the Month for the Rotary Club of Sedro-Woolley. Brandon is the son of James and Shann Boyd of Sedro-Woolley.
Brandon maintains a 3.93 GPA while being actively involved in Sedro-Woolley High School. He is on the Varsity football team (4 years) and Varsity baseball team (4 years), as well as being a member of National Honor Society. Brandon has taken many honors classes and AP courses like Geometry in Construction, AP Human Geography, Honors English 9 & 10, Advanced Algebra Drones, Math 153 Pre-Calculus, Chemistry, AP English Language Composition, Spanish 3 and Engineering Design. He has won many Department Awards and is the winner of the Champions of Diversity Award.
Outside of school, Brandon enjoys hanging out with his family and friends, and playing sports. He has held a previous summer position at Janicki Industries, volunteering at Evergreen Elementary, and volunteering at Camp Phoenix Burn Children Recovery Foundation. Brandon is a Cherokee Nation Citizen and is a member of the Cherokee Community of Puget Sound.
After graduation, Brandon plans on attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, or the University of Washington to obtain a Masters Degree in mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering. Congratulations Brandon!

GEORGIA COLLINS has been named November Student of the Month for the Rotary Club of Sedro-Woolley. Georgia is the daughter of Shane and Amy Collins of Sedro-Woolley.
Georgia maintains a 4.0 GPA while being actively involved in Sedro-Woolley High School. She is a member of National Honor Society, Vice President of WTSA Club, Captain of our Varsity Basketball team (3 years total), plays on our Varsity Cross Country team (2 years), and Captain of our Varsity Track & Field team (3 years total).
Outside of school, Georgia enjoys hanging out with her friends and family, antique shopping, decorating, reading and writing. She is a member of the Big Lake Church Nazarene Band as well as volunteers at Vacation Bible School. Georgia had the pleasure of attending the Nazarene Youth Conference in Tampa Bay, Florida which included the production of over 30,000 core kits for the homeless.
After graduation, Georgia will be attending Northwest Nazarene University in Idaho to pursue an engineering degree. She hopes to also participate in the NNU Track & Field program. Congratulations Georgia!

Migrant Bilingual Staff/Family Support Secretary for the Sedro-Woolley School District. The Multilingual Office support staff is a new position effective SY 2023-2024 and will begin on November 27, 2023. It will focus on the needs of the High School providing clerical and liaison support to the Multilingual families and students. This position will be housed at Sedro-Woolley High School and will work collaboratively with the MLL office. Bilingual Required (Spanish preferred). Position will work 5.50 hours per day, 5 days per week. Hours of the position are 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a half hour unpaid meal break (Paid at 5.00 hours per day, 0.625 FTE). Position will work a total of 192 contracted days (180 work days with 12 holidays). Position supported by the SWEOP Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Benefits as per the SWEOP Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The Mount Vernon School District is excited to be hosting Austina De Bonte, former President of the Northwest Gifted Child Association and nationally recognized expert on the cognitive, social and emotional development of Highly Capable children. Her presentation is titled: Smart Is Not Easy: What Research Says About Highly Capable Learners.
The presentation will take place on Monday, Nov. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mount Vernon High School Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. The discussion is geared toward parents, teachers and administrators. While students are welcome to attend, the content will be dense and it may be difficult for some children to maintain attention. On Sunday, the Sedro-Woolley High School Earth Club did a Bag-o-thon trash pickup around the high school campus to raise money for Earth Club activities. The group collected 8 bags of trash with students requesting a pledge per bag of trash collected. What a creative fundraiser!
