This school year, Sedro-Woolley School District is embracing the theme “Empowering Dreams. Rooted in Community.” It’s about honoring the people, places, and traditions that have shaped our community for generations—and recognizing how those deep roots continue to strengthen our schools today. Just as importantly, it’s a reminder of our responsibility to help students not only discover their dreams, but also find the pathways to achieve them.

For Jenny Swanson, those roots run deep. A proud alumni of Sedro-Woolley schools—Mary Purcell, Evergreen, Central Elementary, Cascade Middle, and Sedro-Woolley High—Jenny still carries vivid memories of her days as a student. One of the most defining came during a trip to Camp Orkila. Nervous about being away from home, she pushed through her fears, had a great time, and returned with newfound confidence.

Jenny credits many teachers, coaches, and community members for shaping her path, but one mentor stands out: retired SWHS teacher Rudy Franolovich. Rudy not only taught her and her sister how to golf, but also showed them the power of positivity and how attitude shapes both learning and life.

After leaving for college, Jenny realized just how special her hometown was.

“The wonderful sense of community here is something truly special,” she says. “It’s the people that brought me back.”

Now working in the district she once attended, Jenny takes pride in supporting students the way she was supported.

She believes Sedro-Woolley’s spirit hasn’t changed, even as the town has grown.

“Whether you’re a fourth-generation resident, new to town, or someone who works here, Sedro-Woolley embraces you and turns you into a CUB!”

Her advice for today’s students?

“There’s no place like Sedro-Woolley. Take pride in where you’re from, lean into the support around you, and know that growing up here gives you a strong foundation wherever life takes you.”
