Business Buddies Overview & Purpose
Engage the Sedro-Woolley business community in schools by promoting partnerships, soliciting feedback and sharing information about the district, schools, staff and student successes. This program will invite area businesses to become a partner at their elementary school of choice through a variety of activities outlined in the table below. Please note our secondary schools will not participate in this particular program.
BUDDY SCHEDULE (Plan to spend at least half an hour per month in the classroom)
Introduction with an explanation about the buddy’s job
Read an age-appropriate book to the class (classroom teacher will make suggestions)
Help with a special craft (classroom teacher will invite provide times/dates)
Attend holiday concerts
Bring the entire class a snack (check for food allergies!)
Eat lunch in the cafeteria with the class
Read one of your favorite childhood books (check with the teacher to check out a copy from the school’s library and make sure the book is age appropriate)
Play board games or put together puzzles
Go to recess with the class (play a game, swing, etc.)
Attend a play day or special field trip
Business Buddies will be invited to a school board meeting in June for special recognition. Some basic information about Business Buddies:
Before classroom visits begin, a background check is required. That form will be provided to you and needs to be turned in with the school office staff, along with a copy of a current ID.
Buddies are assigned to an elementary classroom for the entire school year. The assigned school will work to partner volunteers with classrooms where there is a personal interest, such as classrooms where a child or grandchild are!
Ideally, Buddies will visit the classroom each month as outlined above. The Buddy and classroom teacher should pre-arrange the best time prior to the visit.
Kickoff: Fall 2022
The goal is to have Business Buddies in the classroom by October 2022.
