Sedro-Woolley School District
Strategic Roadmap
During the September 23, 2019 Board Meeting, the board of directors approved the revised Strategic Roadmap. The Roadmap serves as a guide for district learning initiatives and actions in support of all students served in the Sedro-Woolley School District. This revised Roadmap will guide the district for the next five years. Each August the directors will review the Roadmap for any additional revisions that might be needed. The Road Map includes our five foundational strategies or goals of 1. Achievement 2. Equity 3. Stewardship 4. Partnerships and 5. Continuous Learning. In addition to these strategies that guide our work as a student learning-focused school system, our school board adopted this year’s school board goals during the September 14, 2020 board meeting that complement each of the strategies.Achievement: We continue to prioritize student achievement by “providing high-quality instruction in every classroom, every day.” The Sedro-Woolley School District continues to be educational leaders in our region and I am very proud of the Clear Lake, and Samish Elementary Schools for being honored as recipients of the Washington Achievement Award.
Equity: We had an amazing year with Dell Chromebooks distributed throughout the district that completed our 1-to-1 computer initiative in our elementary classrooms. The district is also focused on equity for all students as a major learning initiative this school past school and will continue this focus during 2021-2022.
Stewardship: The Sedro-Woolley School District enrollment continues to grow which has prompted the placement of portables at several of our elementary schools. We expect to have more than 4,400 students this year. To address our growing needs, a Facilities Committee was commissioned by the school board to assess our school building needs related to maintenance and repair, as well as classroom capacity to accommodate our growing student population. The school board received a summary of their work during the August 26 board meeting and are continuing to meet to narrow down the options along with funding options.
Partnership: We continue to work with amazing business and community partners through the Skagit STEM Network and with our local charitable organizations that provide generous support for our students.
Continuous Learning: Thank you to our entire Sedro-Woolley school community, especially our families, for all of your support this past year! Our mission states that “every student graduates with the knowledge and skills for future learning and success.” With our continued partnerships, our students will continue to accomplish amazing things and will achieve at high levels!
The original 5-Year Roadmap was developed by the community and staff during the 2013-2014 school year and has been reviewed by the school board each year since being developed. The revised Roadmap contains updated initiatives and language along with learning benchmarks and goals. If you have any questions or comments about the Road Map, please contact Superintendent Dr. Miriam Mickelson at 360-855-3500 or by email at mmickelson@swsd101.org.Thank you.
