Welcome to the 2018 – 2019 School Year!
We had a very busy summer preparing for our students to have a great school year! Our staff and facilities are ready to start the new school year.
Our strategic plan or Road Map serves as our guide for student success. The Road Map includes our five foundational strategies or goals of: 1. Achievement 2. Equity 3. Stewardship 4. Partnerships and 5. Continuous Learning. In addition to these strategies that guide our work as a student learning focused school system, our school board adopted this year’s school board goals at their September 11, 2017 meeting that complement each of the strategies.
Achievement: We continue to prioritize student achievement by “providing high quality instruction in every classroom, every day.” The Sedro-Woolley School District continues to be education leaders in our region and I am very proud of the Big Lake, Clear Lake, and Lyman Elementary Schools for once again being honored as recipients of the Washington Achievement Award.
Equity: We had an amazing year with the additions nearly 2,000 Dell Chromebooks distributed throughout the district that completed our 1-to-1 computer initiative in our elementary classrooms. We added 400 Chromebooks at Cascade Middle School and another 500 at Sedro-Woolley High School. Finally, the high school has had a complete wiring overhaul with high-speed network cables.
Stewardship: The Sedro-Woolley School District enrollment continues to grow which has prompted the placement of portables at several of our elementary schools. We expect to have more than 4,300 students this year, which is an all-time high. To address our growing needs, a Facilities Improvement Taskforce was commissioned by the school board to assess our school building needs related to maintenance and repair, as well as classroom capacity to accommodate our growing student population. FIT recommended replacing Evergreen Elementary School and developed a priority list of preservation needs to maintain our other schools.
Partnership: We are able to provide our students with this technology because of you. Thank you for partnering with us and supporting our safety and technology levy! This levy will sunset this November fulfilling our technology needs for the next several years.
Continuous Learning: Thank you to our entire Sedro-Woolley school community, especially our families, for all of your support this past year! Our mission states that “every student graduates with the knowledge and skills for future learning and success.” With our continued partnerships, our students will continue to accomplish amazing things and will achieve at high levels!
I look forward to having a great 2018–2019 school year, we are off to a great start!
