• The Science Department at SWHS aims to engage all students in the work of scientists and engineers by investigating natural phenomena and designing solutions to real human problems. We use Ambitious Science Teaching practices to develop collaborative learning environments that remove barriers to learning so that all students can access a high quality science education. We also want our students to understand that science is not simply a body of knowledge to be memorized, but more importantly, it is powerful habits of mind and practices that will allow them to answer questions and solve problems they will face in life and work. We strive to accomplish this by offering a robust required science course sequence consisting of Biology, Physics and Chemistry that is accompanied by a wide range of electives that further develop students' interest in science and prepare them for their next steps after high school.
