Welcome to the Sedro-Woolley School District Good Beginnings Preschool Program. All Public School Districts are required to locate, identify, evaluate, and provide free and appropriate education to children who have been determined to have a disability through an evaluation process with the public school district of residence.Good Beginnings Preschool serves children birth to five years of age who are demonstrating delays in one or more areas of development including language, cognition, social/emotional, speech, and/or motor skills. Some students who receive services are also medically fragile. This program is offered in a variety of settings with the primary goal of encouraging the development of critical attributes that lead to successful kindergarten (and beyond) experiences. These attributes include the ability to communicate, to listen and follow directions, to solve problems, to calmly make transitions, and to be responsible for themselves in a school setting. Infants and toddlers under age two are served in the home setting through developmental home visits. A variety of class options are available for children ages two through five.Preschool teachers are certified in special education and specialize in teaching young children with special needs. Each class is staffed with a certified teacher and a paraeducator to assist the teacher. The Developmental Preschool team also includes Speech/Language Pathologists, Motor Therapists, Psychologists and the School Nurse to further assist in the preparation of our young children for entrance into the kindergarten setting. Transportation is provided to and from school.
If you believe your child is in need of early intervention services, you may refer your child for an initial developmental screening by contacting Amberley Gregg at (360) 855-3870. The evaluation will indicate what services will be provided for your child. If your child qualifies for preschool special education services they will be provided at no cost.Mission Statement of the Good Beginnings Preschool Program
Our mission is to serve identified children from birth to age five in the Sedro-Woolley School District by guiding their development through individualized, specially designed instruction. We offer this by providing opportunities for children to progress at their own rate, feeling challenged, yet competent. Our commitment is to a family and staff partnership with the recognition that the family is the child’s first teacher. With these ideals, we strive to promote the development of the whole child.
