Big Lake Elementary has served the children of this community for over 100 years. Our goal is for each student to receive a high-quality education, providing them a great foundation for any future opportunity they dream of. This goal fits with our District Mission Statement that, "Every student graduates with the knowledge and skills for future learning and success." To prepare our students for a bright future, we must provide appropriate challenge, developing critical thinkers. We must help students build strong skills and knowledge in math and science, reading and writing, history, technology, art and physical education, while offering ample academic and emotional support. A quality and caring staff set the tone for a environment with high expectations for all students.
Big Lake Elementary is also about parent and community involvement. Through the support of our volunteers and families, students participate in outdoor science education at Mountain School and Camp Orkila. The arts through Missoula Childrens Theater, Artist-in-Residence, Poet-in-Residence and a wide range of class field trips. District music programs are available for orchestra and band. A student newspaper, Spanish Club, ASB Leadership are a few of the other opportunities our staff and community help provide for students.
Located at the south end of the district, Big Lake Elementary serves elementary students in the Big Lake and Lake Cavanaugh communities.
