This is the place especially for local scholarships, and some good state and national ones, too. Scholarships will be listed here in order of their due date. Start with LOCAL scholarships first - less competition!
More LOCAL scholarship forms will start coming out in December – but now is the time to focus on your college applications and make sure you've signed up for any applicable tests you need to take for admission. Whether it be the ACT (www.actstudent.org) or SAT (www.collegeboard.org) for 4-year colleges or the Accuplacer for Skagit Valley College and Bellingham Technical College and other community and technical colleges this is the time to get these out of the way.
National - The 2018 Most Valuable Student Scholarship contest is open to any high school senior who is a US Citizen. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. Apply online.

National - Food Bank Volunteers! If you have demonstrated an on-going commitment to your community by performing unpaid volunteer services impacting hunger in the United States within the last 12 months - this is an opportunity for you! Apply online.
Deadline: December 5th
National - The AXA Achievement Scholarship is awarded to 52 students nationwide – one selected from each state, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. Each state winner receives a scholarship award of $10,000. They are looking for students who show ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding achievement in school, community or work-related activities. Apply Online.
Deadline: The 2017 program will be accepting applications until 10,000 applications are submitted or 11:59 pm December 15th.
National - This is a scholarship that is only awarded to 20 students in the nation. If you demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity and citizenship this is the scholarship for you. Like many national scholarships many of last year's winners created a campaign or a nonprofit organization in their community to meet local needs. Apply Online.
Deadline: January 4th
National - Scholarships of $2,500 to $15,000 for students of Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity as defined by the U.S. Census and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7. Apply Online.
Deadline: January 11th
State - 50 different scholarships for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and straight-ally students. For community college, public or private colleges and universities, trade apprenticeships or ceritification programs. Apply Online.
Deadline: January 12th
National - Dell Scholars
Eligible students have:
-Grit - by overcoming personal challengers related to your family, school or community
-Potential - by participating in college readiness programs and seeking out academic rigor
-Ambition - by dreaming of obtaining a college degree

State - Base in Bellevue, WA, Nurse.org is seeking applications for the Heathcare Leaders Scholarship. To be eligible for the $1000 award, students must have a GPA of 3.0 or above, be pursuing a degree related to healthcare, and submit a 600-1000 word essay. Local - The SWHS Class of 1971 is pleased to offer four scholarships for SWHS and State Street HS graduates, two for a technical program and two for an academic program. You can find an application in the scholarship holder outside the counseling office door or print one from the pdf below. Please send your application electronically. Ms. Jen can assist you with this in the counseling office.

National - More than 1,800 scholarships are available. Scholarships are sponsored by businesses and individuals through the National FFA Foundation and are given for a wide variety of experiences, career goals and higher education plans. The selection process takes into account the whole student - FFA involvement, work experience, Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE), community service, leadership skills and academics.
Am I Eligible to apply? Each scholarship has specific criteria that are defined by the sponsor when the scholarship is established. Please read the individual scholarship descriptions in the Scholarship Guidebook to see if you qualify. You must be a current FFA members unless otherwise stated.
How do I apply? Students can access the application through the FFA website located at www.ffa.org. FFA members with FFA.org accounts should log in and proceed to the Application Center. FFA members without an account must contact their advisor for an invitation. Non-members must create an account through the “Community” portal to access the Application Center.
Deadline: The application must be submitted online by 5:00 p.m. EST on February 1. The printed Signature Page* must be postmarked no later than February 8.
State (PNW Region) - BBB Foundation offers the Students of Intergrity Scholarship to recognize high school seniors who personify high ethicsm, as demonstrated through leadership, community service, overall personal intergrity and academics accomplishments. A scholarship of $10,000 will be awarded to the winning application sumbitted by students residing in Alaska, Oregon, or Western Washington. High school seniors from across the Northwest are encouraged to apply by creating a 90-second video that demonstratyets how BBB help people become smart consumers.

National - FBLA members have access to many scholarships from college programs as well as many independent educational programs. Apply online.
Deadline: Multiple dates for individual scholarships
Local - The McIntyre Scholarship is awarded to Skagit County high school students (preferably Sedro-Woolley) who demonstrate the need for financial assistance, show promise of success in his or her chosen field and can prove exceptional scholarship (academics and involvement) throughout high school. This scholarship is for a public 4-year college in Washington and is renewable for a maximum of 4 years. This is the most generous scholarship our community offers- the number of gifts change yearly, but SWHS seniors will get more than one.
Deadline: Post marked by February 19th
Local - If you apply for one scholarship, apply for this one! You fill out one form and it goes to 20+ LOCAL groups! You can find an application in the scholarship holder outside the counseling office door or print one from the word doc. below.

Don't forget INSTITUTIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS - If you look on your colleges FINANCIAL AID page you'll find MANY scholarships specific to that school that many times require separate applications. Don't miss out on these institutional opportunities.
