  • Fundraising Goal

Posted by Olivia Johansen on 10/15/2014
At Cascade Middle School, we have 80 students involved in the choral program. We are raising money to purchase a classroom set of formal concert apparel for use this year and in years to come. Having a unified and professional appearance at performances will help build ensemble pride and boost confidence individually and collectively. We would like to be able to compete with other choirs state-wide, in our efforts to appear professional and unified as a group.

Parents of 3rd Period Drumming Class and 4th Period Guitar!

We have been chosen to participate in a fantastic guest artist residency program provided through EMP Museum (known formerly as Experience Music Project Museum) Seattle. The guest artist is named TJ Wheeler, and he will be here working with the kids for a week, April 7-12th. I’ve provided an overview of the week’s events. Please review the schedule, and let me know if you have any questions.

Here at the middle school, TJ will be working with the 3rd period drumming class, and the 4th period guitar class.

    Regards,

    Music in the Parks

    Saturday May 31st 2014

The Cascade Middle School band and choir will be attending the Music in the Parks festival at Wild Waves this year. This will be a wonderful way to celebrate the end of the year of music at CMS! This will be an all day trip. At the festival, ensembles will play for adjudicators in the morning and spend the rest of the day at Wild Waves.

The trip will cost $80 per student and $35 per parent chaperone. The fee will cover festival costs, Wild Waves admission, transportation, dinner at the park (students will bring a sack lunch), and a band or choir T-shirt. Partial scholarships and individual fund raising will be available. Band and choir T-shirts will be distributed to students in December when the band booster club has received the full first payment. The payment schedule is as follows:

$25 due December 4 (Must have the first $25 in to get choir t-shirt)

    $25 due February 5th

    $30 due April 15th (payments non-refundable after February 1st)

  • Solo and Ensemble

Posted by Olivia Johansen on 1/8/2014

    Choir Parents,

There is a great opportunity for your child to perform this winter!

The San Juan Music Educators Association’s Solo and Ensemble Festival is on Saturday, February 1st at Kulshan Middle School in Bellingham.

The Solo and Ensemble Festival is an event where middle school students from all over our region will prepare and perform solos, duets, trios, and other small ensemble music for a small audience and a professional adjudicator. It is a highly educational and rewarding experience for the kids. I am encouraging students to do primarily solos due to the very short time we have to prepare. Also, I am encouraging mainly 8th graders to participate in this event this year, as this is their last chance to participate at the middle school level.

In order to participate, your support is needed. Here is what is required of you:

     * You will arrange transportation for your child to and from Kulshan Middle School the day of the event.
