Governor Jay Inslee has directed that flags at all Washington State agency facilities be lowered to half-staff on Friday, May 3, 2013, in recognition of the annual Medal of Honor and Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony.

Flags should remain at half-staff on Saturday, May 4, 2013, in memory of U.S. Army Captain Aaron R. Blanchard, 32, of Selah, who died on April 23 in Afghanistan of injuries sustained from indirect fire.

Flags should remain at half-staff until sunset/close of business on Saturday, May 4 or first thing Monday morning, May 6.

Governor Jay Inslee has directed that flags at all Washington State agency facilities be lowered to half-staff beginning today, April 16, 2013, as per President Obama’s proclamation as a mark of respect for the victims of yesterday’s tragic events in Boston, Massachusetts. 

 

Flags should remain at half-staff until sunset/close of business on Saturday, April 20.

The Governor is deeply saddened by the death of Lieutenant Commander Alan A. Patterson (34), Lieutenant Junior Grade Valerie Delaney (26), and Lieutenant Junior Grade William Brown (24), and directs that Washington State and United States flags at all state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff in their memory on Tuesday, March 19, 2013.  All three were stationed at the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island and died when their plane crashed on March 11 in Eastern Washington.

Flags should remain at half-staff until close of business Tuesday, March 19, 2013.

It is with deep sadness that Governor Jay Inslee directs flags at all state agency facilities to half-staff in memory of former Governor Booth Gardner who passed away on Friday night at the age of 76 of complications from Parkinson’s disease.  Attached is the directive issued by the Governor on March 18, 2013.

National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day was created by Congress in 1994 in honor of those Americans killed or injured as a result of the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. 

Governor Chris Gregoire is deeply saddened with the death of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Matthew H. Stiltz, 26, of Spokane, and directs Washington State and United States flags at all state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff in his memory on Tuesday, November 20, 2012.  He was killed November 12 when insurgents attacked his unit with artillery fire in Afghanistan.
 

Flags should remain at half-staff until close of business on November 20 or first thing Wednesday morning, November 21.

Governor Chris Gregoire is deeply saddened with the death of U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Sean Carson and directs Washington State and United States flags at all state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff in his memory on Tuesday, August 28, 2012.  He was killed August 16 in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.

August 28 or first thing Wednesday morning, August 29.

A funeral ceremony for David will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 5 at Auburn Adventist Academy Church, 5010 Auburn Way S, Auburn. 

Governor Chris Gregoire is deeply saddened with the death of U. S. Army First Lieutenant Mathew G. Fazzari, 25, of Walla Walla and directs that Washington State and United States flags at all state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff in his memory Friday, June 22, 2012.  He died June 6 in Afghanistan when his helicopter crashed after receiving enemy fire.

The annual Peace Officers Memorial Day was created by Congress in 1962 to honor public safety officers.

Army Staff Sergeant Nathan L. Wyrick, 34, of Enumclaw, who died October 10 in Afghanistan of wounds he suffered from small arms fire.

 

Flags should remain at half-staff until close of business Wednesday, or first thing Thursday morning, October 20.

Just a reminder that September 11 is annual Patriot Day (Public Law 107-89),and all flags should be at half-staff.

 

As this is on a Sunday with most agencies closed, it is permissible to lower flags on Friday afternoon, September 9, and return them to full-staff first thing Monday morning, September 12.
